For twenty-two years, Lily had grown up without a father.
While Emma had enjoyed everything Lily had been denied.
The large house.
The vacations.
The birthday celebrations.
The family photographs.
Lily had grown up with her mother.
Robert had paid child support.
But money was not fatherhood.
One night, Lily confronted Emma.
“You got everything.”
Emma looked at her.
“I know.”
“You got the father.”
“I know.”
“You got the family.”
Emma's eyes filled with tears.
“I thought I did.”
Lily looked at her.
“What does that mean?”
Emma answered honestly.
“My family was never what I thought it was.”
For the first time, Lily saw that Emma was not her enemy.
They were both victims of the same lies.
