Chapter 8 - THE FAMILY DINNEREmma invited everyone to dinner.
Her parents.
Daniel.
And Lily.
No one understood why.
Robert tried to stop her.
“Emma, this is not the way to handle family matters.”
Emma looked at him.
“You had twenty-two years to handle yours.”
The dinner began in silence.
Lily sat across from Robert.
He could barely look at her.
Evelyn stared at Daniel.
Daniel looked terrified.
Emma placed a folder on the table.
Then another.
She looked at her father.
“This is about Lily.”
Robert's face went white.
Then she looked at her mother.
“This is about Daniel.”
Evelyn began crying.
Finally, Emma looked at both of them.
“And this is about everything you have lied about.”
She opened the first folder.
“Mom's affair began three years ago.”
Robert's face changed.
Evelyn whispered:
“Emma…”
“No.”
Emma opened the second folder.
“Dad has another daughter.”
Lily looked at Robert.
He lowered his head.
Then Emma placed the final document on the table.
The life insurance policy.
“The beneficiary was changed six months ago.”
Everyone froze.
Daniel looked at Evelyn.
“You said he was going to sign the transfer.”
Evelyn stared at him.
Robert slowly turned toward her.

“What transfer?”
And suddenly, the affair was no longer the biggest secret in the room.
