Chapter 11 - SARAHSarah was found in Colorado.

She was thirty-one years old.
She had no idea who Madeline was.
She had grown up in foster care.
Her adoption records were sealed.
She knew only that she had been born with a heart condition.
She had no memory of her biological family.
When Madeline contacted her, Sarah refused to believe her.
Then the DNA test confirmed it.
Mother and daughter.
After thirty years.
Sarah met Madeline in a quiet restaurant.
Brandon went with her.
I stayed home with Luke.
I did not know what to expect.
When Brandon returned, he looked exhausted.
“How did it go?”
He sat down.
“Sarah hates her.”
I said nothing.
“She said Madeline destroyed her life before she even knew she existed.”
I looked at him.
“Does Sarah know about Luke?”
“Yes.”
“What does she want?”
Brandon looked toward Luke's bedroom.
“She wants to meet him.”
I swallowed.
The situation was complicated.
Sarah was Luke's genetic aunt.
Madeline was his genetic grandmother.
But I was his mother.
And the woman who had raised him was me.
I agreed to the meeting.
May you like
But only under one condition.
No one would call Luke a possession.
