Sarah had been Madeline's daughter.

The sister everyone believed had died as a baby.
I stared at the records.
“This is impossible.”
The doctor shook his head.
“According to the records, Sarah was not stillborn.”
Madeline began crying.
“She was taken from me.”
Brandon stared at her.
“What are you talking about?”
Madeline revealed the final truth.
Sarah had been born with a serious heart condition.
The doctors had told Madeline that the baby had died.
But the hospital records showed something different.
Sarah had been transferred.
Adopted.
And later became an egg donor.
Luke's embryo had been created using Sarah's genetic material.
I was his biological mother.
But the DNA connection to Brandon's family came through his sister.
Luke was not Brandon's son.
But he was still genetically connected to the Carter family.
