Chapter 6 - EIGHT MONTHS LATEREight months after the wedding that never happened, Sophia went into labor.

Rain poured over St. Mary's Hospital.

Her mother held her hand.

“You can do this.”

Sophia laughed weakly.

“I have survived worse.”

Hours later, a baby's cry filled the room.

A beautiful baby boy.

Sophia held him against her chest.

“Noah.”

The name had been chosen long ago.

Ethan had once told her that if they ever had a son, he wanted to name him Noah.

Sophia had remembered.

Even after everything.

She kissed the baby's forehead.

“It's just you and me now.”

Outside the hospital room, Ethan stood frozen.

Sophia's mother had told him.

He had driven through the storm without thinking.

He did not know what he expected.

Perhaps anger.

Perhaps rejection.

Perhaps nothing.

Then he saw the baby through the glass.

His son.

Ethan's knees almost gave way.

Noah had his eyes.

His chin.

The same small birthmark beneath his ear.

May you like

Ethan pressed his hand against the glass.

And began to cry.
