The entire ballroom froze.
Sophia Harper stood beneath the crystal chandeliers, one hand resting protectively over her stomach.

Silence filled the room.

Beside him was Vanessa Cole.

Sophia looked at the pair of baby shoes in her hand.
She had bought them that morning.

“Congratulations,” she whispered.

“Sophia, listen to me.”

Vanessa stepped forward.
“You are being dramatic.”
Sophia slowly turned toward her.
“No, dear.”
Her smile was heartbreaking.
“Drama ends when the audience leaves.”
She looked at Ethan one last time.
“But consequences last forever.”
Then she walked away.
No screaming.
No begging.
No scene.
Just a woman leaving the man she had once loved.
Behind her, Ethan stood frozen.
