Chapter 14 - NOAH'S QUESTIONNoah was six when he asked:

“Why don't you and Dad live together?”
Sophia froze.
Ethan was sitting across the room.
Neither adult answered immediately.
Finally, Sophia said:
“Sometimes adults love each other but cannot live together safely.”
Noah frowned.
“Did Dad do something bad?”
Ethan looked at his son.
“Yes.”
Sophia turned toward him.
Ethan continued.
“I hurt your mother.”
Noah looked confused.
“Did you say sorry?”
“Yes.”
“Did she forgive you?”
Ethan looked at Sophia.
“Not completely.”
Noah thought for a moment.
“Then you should keep saying sorry.”
Sophia almost smiled.
Ethan nodded.
“I will.”
Noah returned to his toys.
The two adults remained silent.
Then Sophia laughed quietly.
“What?”
“Your son just gave you better advice than any therapist.”
Ethan smiled.
“He is very wise.”
“He is six.”
“Still wiser than me.”
This time, Sophia laughed.
