Chapter 17 - THE TRUTH ABOUT VANESSAVanessa was eventually arrested.
The investigation uncovered more than Ethan had known.
She had stolen money from several companies.
She had manipulated multiple men.
She had planned to marry Ethan for access to his inheritance.
But the final evidence came from her own former partner.
He revealed that Vanessa had intentionally encouraged Ethan to abandon Sophia.
She had known Sophia was pregnant.
She had known before Ethan did.
And she had deliberately hidden the truth.
When Ethan learned this, he felt sick.
He confronted Vanessa in prison.
“Why?”
Vanessa laughed bitterly.
“Because you were weak.”
Ethan said nothing.
“You wanted someone to tell you that your wife was the problem.”
She smiled.
“I simply gave you what you wanted to believe.”
Ethan finally understood.
Vanessa had manipulated him.
But she had not forced him.
He had chosen.
And that was the part he could never escape.
When he returned home, Sophia was waiting.
He told her everything.
She listened.
Then said:
“I know.”
He looked at her.
“How?”
“Because I always knew you were weak.”
Ethan smiled sadly.
“But you were strong enough to leave.”

Sophia nodded.
“That is the difference.”
