Chapter 2 - THE DIVORCE PAPERSSophia filed for divorce three days later.

Ethan refused to believe it.
He thought she was angry.
He thought she wanted attention.
He thought she would eventually come home.
For three years, every fight had ended the same way.
Sophia cried.
Ethan apologized.
Sophia forgave him.
But this time, the divorce papers arrived at his office.
Along with a note.
I am no longer waiting for you to become the man you promised to be.
Ethan stared at the sentence for hours.
Then he called her.
She did not answer.
He sent flowers.
She returned them.
He sent messages.
She blocked him.
He went to her mother's house.
Sophia refused to see him.
“You have already chosen,” her mother told him.
Ethan clenched his fists.
“I never wanted to hurt her.”
The older woman looked at him coldly.
“Intentions don't matter when you keep choosing the same actions.”
That sentence followed him for years.
Meanwhile, Vanessa moved into the penthouse.
She began planning the wedding.
She bought designer dresses.
Booked luxury hotels.
And spent Ethan's money as if it were already hers.
Ethan did not notice.
He was too busy convincing himself that Sophia would eventually return.
