Chapter 9 - THE RECORDING FROM ELEVEN YEARS AGOThe police arrived.
But before anyone could question Evelyn, Charles' security chief brought in a laptop.
“There is something you need to see.”
The recording showed a young Anna.
She was crying.
Standing in a hotel corridor.
Evelyn appeared in front of her.
The audio was clear.
“You will leave this city tonight.”
Anna shook her head.
“I didn't steal anything.”
Evelyn stepped closer.
“You don't understand who you are fighting.”
“What are you going to do?”
Evelyn's voice became cold.
“Your father will believe me.”
Anna began to cry.
“And my child?”
Evelyn said nothing.
Then she whispered:
“Children are easy to make disappear.”
The ballroom became silent.
Lily was in another room with a nurse.
Charles watched the screen.
His face became expressionless.
But his hands were shaking.
When the recording ended, everyone looked at Evelyn.
She had no answer.
The police officer approached her.
“Mrs. Grant, you need to come with us.”
Evelyn looked at Charles.
“You will regret this.”
May you like
Charles stared at her.
“I already regret the last eleven years.”
