Evelyn was waiting.
The guests had been asked to remain.
No one dared leave.
Charles stood in the center of the room.
“Evelyn.”
She smiled.
“You seem upset.”
“Anna is alive.”
Evelyn's smile disappeared.
Charles continued.
“She says you threatened her.”
“That woman is unstable.”
“She has been hiding for eleven years.”
“Exactly.”
Evelyn crossed her arms.
“Why should you believe her now?”
Charles looked at her.
“Because you knew she was alive.”
Evelyn did not answer.
That was enough.
Charles turned to his security chief.
“Lock the exits.”
The guests gasped.
Evelyn stared at him.
“You cannot hold everyone here.”
“I am not holding anyone.”
Charles pointed toward the security cameras.
“I am preserving evidence.”
Evelyn suddenly turned toward the nearest guard.
“Call the police.”
Charles looked at her.
“Please do.”
Evelyn froze.
May you like
Charles took out his phone.
