Chapter 18 - THE TRUTH IN FRONT OF EVERYONEThe press conference began.
Hundreds of cameras pointed toward Charles.
Anna stood beside him.
Lily stood between them.
Charles spoke first.
“My daughter was accused of a crime she did not commit.”
The room became silent.
“She was forced to disappear because people in my own organization wanted to hide financial crimes.”
Anna continued.
“They threatened me because I discovered the truth.”
Charles looked at the cameras.
“For eleven years, I believed my daughter was dead.”
His voice weakened.
“I was wrong.”
Anna reached for his hand.
He took it.
Then Lily stepped forward.
The reporters became quiet.
She was only eight years old.
She did not understand everything.
But she understood one thing.
Her mother had been afraid.
And her grandfather had finally chosen to listen.
Charles knelt beside her.
“You don't have to say anything.”
Lily looked at the cameras.
Then she said:
“My mommy didn't steal anything.”
The room fell completely silent.
Anna began to cry.
