Chapter 19 - THE CONSERVATORYOn the tenth anniversary of the wedding that never happened, Grace returned to the conservatory.

The building now belonged to the foundation.

The white roses were gone.

The glass walls remained.

She stood where her mother had once walked in carrying her.

Adrian stood beside her.

For a long time, neither spoke.

Then Grace asked:

“Was she afraid?”

“Yes.”

“Did she show it?”

“Not until she was alone.”

Grace smiled sadly.

“That sounds like her.”

Adrian looked toward the doors.

“I thought she came to destroy me.”

“Did she?”

He thought about it.

“No.”

“What did she do?”

“She gave me a daughter.”

Grace looked at him.

“And a second chance?”

Adrian shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at the empty aisle.

“She gave me the chance to become someone who deserved to be her father.”

Grace placed her hand on his.

For the first time, she understood something.

Her mother had not died because she was weak.

She had died after fighting for every moment she had.

And her father had not become good because he was forgiven.

May you like

He had become good because forgiveness did not erase consequences.

It demanded change.
