Chapter 16 / 20
Chapter 16 - THE DAY GRACE FOUND THE TRUTHGrace was twenty-two when she found the financial records.
She had known her grandmother had gone to prison.
She had known Celeste was not her father's wife.
But she had not known everything.
She read the court documents.
The stolen money.
The intercepted calls.
The pregnancy.
The wedding.
Her mother's failing heart.
Her father's guilt.
Then she found the letter.
She confronted Adrian.
“You knew she was dying when she came to the wedding.”
“Yes.”
“And you still let her go there?”
“She chose to go.”
“You should have stopped her.”
He looked down.
“Yes.”
Grace began to cry.
“Did she forgive you?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Adrian's voice broke.
“I don't know.”
Grace looked at him.
“Did you deserve it?”
“No.”
That was the answer she needed.
Not a defense.
May you like
Not an excuse.
Just the truth.
