Chapter 1 - THE CALL FROM THE MAN WHO LEFT MEEight months after my divorce, my phone buzzed with Adrian’s name.

I was lying in a hospital bed.

My body still ached from giving birth.

My daughter was sleeping beside me.

And the man who had abandoned me called to tell me he was getting married.

“Come to my wedding,” Adrian said.

His voice was still the same.

Confident.

Smug.

Certain that the world would continue arranging itself around him.

Then he added the words that had once destroyed me.

“Celeste is pregnant.”

He paused.

“Unlike you.”

I looked at the baby sleeping beside me.

The child he did not know existed.

For seven years, I had tried to give Adrian a family.

I had taken medication.

Endured injections.

Lost two babies.

Watched his mother call me defective.

And watched Adrian slowly stop defending me.

Then he left.

Eight months later, I gave birth to his daughter.

Alone.

He thought I was barren.

He thought Celeste had given him the family I could not.

He thought he had won.

So when he invited me to his wedding, I said:

“Sure.”

He laughed.

“Try not to make a scene.”

I looked at my daughter's tiny hand.

“No,” I replied.

“I have proof.”

That night, my lawyer Nora Bennett opened the leather folder beside my hospital bed.

Inside were three things.

A paternity test.

Bank records.

And evidence that the woman Adrian planned to marry had stolen nearly five million dollars from my inheritance.

But there was something else.

Something even more dangerous.

A document proving that Adrian's mother knew I was pregnant before the divorce.

She had hidden the truth.

She had intercepted my calls.

She had convinced Adrian that I was trying to extort him.

And while Adrian believed I had abandoned him emotionally—

his mother and Celeste had been moving my money through shell companies.

I stared at the evidence.

Nora asked:

“Are you sure you want to go?”

I looked at Grace.

My daughter.

The family Adrian had claimed I could never give him.

“Yes.”

Not because I wanted revenge.

Not entirely.

I needed to see the man I had once loved.

I needed to know whether he was truly gone.

Or whether the man who once carried me out of a hospital bathroom after our first miscarriage was still somewhere inside him.

Three weeks later, I would walk into his wedding.

And everything he believed about his life would collapse.
