Chapter 26 - WITHDRAW NOAH'S CLAIMThe message beneath Evelyn's photograph contained four words:

WITHDRAW NOAH'S CLAIM. TONIGHT.
Ryan immediately called police.
Emily didn't argue.
That mattered.
The old Ryan would have hidden the threat while trying to solve everything himself.
This Ryan put the phone on the table and said:
“We do this together.”
Investigators traced the photograph unsuccessfully.
Then Lucas called from another number.
He had escaped whoever attacked him.
“Martin doesn't want my share,” Lucas explained.
“He wants the trust dissolved.”
Why?
Because for twenty-seven years, Martin had been borrowing against assets he didn't own.
As trustee, he created shell entities and used trust property as collateral.
Thomas discovered irregularities shortly before his death.
But he never finished investigating.
“If every legitimate descendant is recognized,” Lucas said, “the trust requires a full accounting.”
Ryan understood.
Recognizing Lucas would trigger scrutiny.
So why attack Noah?
Lucas answered:
“Because Noah's birth triggered the next distribution.”
That distribution required independent valuation.
Martin's missing money would become visible.
Emily looked toward the baby monitor.
Her son wasn't the target because he had done anything.
He was dangerous simply because he existed.
Lucas continued:
“Maddox was supposed to keep your legal history complicated enough to challenge the distribution.”
Ryan closed his eyes.
The divorce.
The missing decree.
The delayed notices.
Years of confusion.
All of it suddenly had a financial purpose.
Then Lucas gave them an address.
“Martin keeps the original records there.”
Ryan asked, “How do you know?”
May you like
Lucas paused.
“Because I worked for him.”
