Chapter 15 - NATALIE RECOGNIZED HIMNatalie came to Emily's house that afternoon.
It was uncomfortable at first.
The last time their lives collided, Emily had believed Natalie was sleeping with her husband.
Now they needed each other.
Claire showed Natalie a photograph of Daniel.
Natalie stared at it.
Then her face went pale.
“I've seen him.”
Ryan leaned forward.
“Where?”
“Steven's office. During our divorce.”
Ryan froze.
Natalie remembered signing documents nine years earlier when a well-dressed man entered Steven's office.
She had only seen him for seconds.
But she remembered Steven's behavior changing immediately.
“He told me your family had complicated assets,” Natalie said. “I thought he meant your father.”
Claire pushed Daniel's photograph closer.
“You're certain?”
Natalie nodded.
“That's him.”
Emily felt a chill.
Daniel had been involved before Ryan ever married her.
Before Noah existed.
Before anyone knew there would be four million dollars at stake.
Ryan whispered:
“Why would my brother care whether I got divorced?”
Nobody answered.
Then Emily's doorbell camera sent an alert.
Person detected at front door.
Ryan opened the security feed.
A man stood outside holding a large envelope.
Natalie pointed at the screen.
