THE RIPPLE EFFECT / Chapter 20 / 20

Chapter 20 - AFTER THE FLOOD, A RIVER FOUND ITS COURSETwo years later.

The Vance-Carter home was filled with the chaotic, joyful sounds of a growing family.

In the sunlit living room overlooking the gardens, Maya, now nine years old and completely healthy, was sitting on the rug teaching a toddler how to build wooden blocks.

Ethan stood by the window, holding a mug of coffee, watching his children play. Beside him, Victoria stepped up, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind.

"How is our little boy doing?" Ethan asked softly, turning around to kiss Victoria’s lips.

"Leo is fast asleep after his feeding," Victoria smiled, leaning into Ethan’s solid warmth.

They looked out at their children—Maya, vibrant and full of life, and baby Leo, the physical symbol of their merged worlds and deep love.

Life had tested them both in the cruelest ways possible. Ethan had faced the terror of losing his child; Victoria had faced the darkness of despair and betrayal. Yet, through the storm, they had pulled each other from the depths, rebuilt their lives on a foundation of trust, and created a sanctuary of peace and happiness.

The dark river that had once threatened to consume them had ultimately carried them home to each other.

"Look, Daddy! Mommy!" Maya called out, pointing to a beautiful rainbow spanning across the sky outside the window after a brief summer shower. "A rainbow!"

Ethan put his arm around Victoria, pulling Maya close to their side with his other arm as they looked out at the bright horizon together.
