Chapter 14 - RISING FROM THE ASHESSix months later, Maya was officially declared in full remission. The dark clouds that had hung over Ethan’s life for years finally dissipated, replaced by bright sunshine and boundless possibilities.

To celebrate Maya’s recovery and Victoria’s birthday, Ethan organized a surprise weekend trip. He didn't take her to a luxury resort or an exclusive island. He took her to a small, charming cottage nestled deep in the mountains beside a tranquil, crystal-clear stream—the exact location depicted in a painting Victoria kept in her office.
When Victoria stepped out of the SUV and saw the wooden cabin with the American flag floating gently in the mountain breeze, her eyes widened in awe.
"How did you find this place?" she asked, turning to Ethan in disbelief.
"Julian helped me," Ethan said with a cheeky grin. "You mentioned once that your father used to bring you here when you were a kid."
Victoria felt a wave of warmth wash over her heart. Ethan noticed every small detail about her, valuing her memories in ways no one else ever had.
Maya ran ahead, chasing butterflies near the clear water of the stream. "Daddy! Look! The water is so clear!"
