Chapter 10 - SHADOWS OF THE PASTThe fallout from Richard’s arrest was swift. Vance Enterprises’ stock rebounded to an all-time high, and Victoria’s position as CEO was permanently solidified. However, success in the boardroom couldn't protect her from the realities of Ethan’s world.

A week after the boardroom showdown, Maya was re-admitted to Ravenport Children’s Hospital with a sudden fever.
Ethan sat by her bed in the ICU, his face buried in his hands. The monitor chimed rhythmically, a terrifying reminder of how fragile his daughter's life was. Victoria stood in the doorway, her heart aching for the man who had given her a second chance at life.
She walked in quietly, placing her hand on his shoulder. "What did the doctor say?"
Ethan looked up, his eyes bloodshot and filled with tears. "Her blast counts are rising again, Victoria. If we don't find a matching bone marrow donor in the next few weeks... the chemotherapy won't be enough."
Victoria squeezed his shoulder. "I've mobilized the Vance Medical Foundation. We are running donor drives across three states, Ethan. Don't give up hope."

"I've been hoping for three years, Victoria," Ethan whispered, his voice cracking. "Every time I think we're safe, the ground collapses under us."
Victoria sat beside him and wrapped her arms around him, pulling his head to her shoulder. For the first time, Ethan let himself break down, sobbing quietly into her sweater while she held him tightly, whispering promises that they would fight this together.
