Chapter 8 - The Arrival at River Forest|

At three in the morning, a fleet of three black armored SUVs pulled through the massive iron gates of the Moretti estate in River Forest.

The property was a fifty-acre fortress of stone, steel, and ancient oak trees, surrounded by high concrete walls topped with razor wire and thermal security cameras.

The vehicles ground to a halt under the wide marble portico.

Rocco opened the door of the second SUV. A young woman with dark red hair and anxious green eyes stepped out, holding a small duffel bag—Clara Carter.

"Hannah!" Clara screamed, sprinting up the marble steps as Hannah stepped out of the lead vehicle.

The two sisters embraced fiercely on the porch, sobbing into each other's shoulders.

"Are you okay?" Clara panted, pulling back to inspect Hannah's face. "These huge men in suits burst into our apartment and told me I had fifteen minutes to pack!"

"I'm okay, Clara," Hannah reassured her, holding her sister's hands. "It's safe here."

Luca stepped out of the lead SUV, wearing a tailored dark coat over his white dress shirt, his gray eyes sweeping over the quiet grounds.

Clara froze, staring up at the six-foot-three mafia Don with wide, terrified eyes. "Who... who is he?"

"He's Mr. Moretti," Hannah said softly. "He's hosting us."

Luca walked up the steps, stopping beside the two women.

"Welcome to River Forest, Miss Carter," Luca said respectfully to Clara, bowing his silver-ing hair slightly. "My housekeepers have prepared the guest suite on the second floor for you and your sister. Anything you require will be provided."

He looked at Hannah, his gaze softening by a fraction.

"Dr. Aris is setting up Sophia’s new physical therapy suite in the west wing," Luca added quietly. "Sophia asked if you would sleep in the room beside hers."

Hannah looked into his gray eyes, seeing the raw, silent plea beneath his calm authority.

"I'll stay beside her," Hannah murmured softly.
