Chapter 17 - The Announcement|

One month later.

The grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was filled with eight hundred prominent guests for the annual Moretti Children’s Health Gala.

Politicians, business moguls, and city leaders filled the room, champagne flutes sparkling under the massive crystal chandeliers.

Luca Moretti stood on the raised main stage, wearing a crisp black tuxedo, holding a glass of scotch.

Standing beside him, looking breathtaking in a sweeping dark emerald silk dress, was Hannah.

And standing between them, holding both of their hands, walking unassisted on her own two feet, was eight-year-old Sophia.

The entire ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause as the crowd witnessed the miracle of the Don's daughter walking across the stage.

Luca adjusted the microphone, his deep voice carrying clearly across the silent hall.

"Three years ago," Luca announced, "I believed that success was measured in shipping routes, corporate acquisitions, and political influence."

He turned his head, looking down at Hannah and Sophia.

"I was wrong," Luca continued softly. "Real power isn't built on iron or money. Real power is found in the quiet strength of a woman who held my daughter’s head above freezing water when the world fell apart."

He raised his glass high toward the crowd.

"To my daughter, Sophia. And to the woman who saved us both—my future wife, Hannah Carter."

The ballroom erupted into cheers as Luca leaned down, pressing a passionate, deep kiss against Hannah’s lips under the golden lights.
