Chapter 14 - The West Wing Miracle|

One week later.
The autumn sun broke through the clouds, bathing the west wing of the River Forest estate in warm, golden light.
The newly constructed physical therapy suite was filled with specialized equipment, parallel walking bars, and soft exercise mats.
Sophia stood between the parallel bars, wearing a pink tracksuit, holding the wooden handrails tightly with both small hands.
Dr. Aris stood at the far end of the room, holding a clipboard, while Luca and Hannah stood near the entrance watching intently.
"Okay, Sophia," Dr. Aris encouraged gently. "Five steps to Miss Hannah. Smooth and steady."
Sophia took a deep breath. She lifted her right foot, setting it forward on the rubber mat.
One.
Her knee wobbled slightly, but her ankles held firm. She lifted her left foot.
Two.
Luca held his breath, his knuckles white as he clutched the edge of the doorframe.
Three. Four.
On the fifth step, Sophia let go of the wooden handrails completely. She took one unassisted step across the open floorboards, stumbling forward, and threw her arms around Hannah’s waist.
"I did it!" Sophia cheered, laughing brightly against Hannah's hip. "I took five real steps!"
Hannah dropped to her knees, hugging the little girl tightly, tears spilling down her cheeks. "You were amazing, baby! So strong!"
Luca walked over slowly, dropping to his knees beside them on the mat. He wrapped his massive arms around both of them, pulling his daughter and Hannah against his broad chest.
"You did it, my sweet girl," Luca whispered into Sophia's dark curls, his own eyes wet with uncharacteristic tears.
Sophia pulled back, looking at her father, then at Hannah, a mischievous, bright smile lighting up her face.
"Daddy," Sophia whispered loudly. "Is Miss Hannah going to stay with us forever now?"
May you like
Luca looked up, his storm-gray eyes locking onto Hannah’s blushing face.
"If she'll have us, baby," Luca murmured softly. "If she'll have us."
