Chapter 18 - The Shadow in the East|
At midnight, as the gala wound down, Luca stood near the private terrace of the Drake Hotel, sipping scotch while Hannah talked with Dr. Aris near the entrance.
Rocco walked up beside him, holding a dark leather folder.
"Boss," Rocco whispered grimly. "The Genovese family in New York just sent a messenger to the docks."
Luca’s eyes turned cold. "What do they want?"
"They know Salvatore is gone," Rocco reported. "They're asking for a new meeting to renegotiate the Brooklyn shipping routes."
Luca took a slow sip of his drink, his gray eyes looking out over the glittering Chicago skyline.
"Tell them the Brooklyn routes are closed," Luca stated flatly. "The Moretti family is out of the illegal shipping business permanently."
Rocco looked surprised. "Boss? That's sixty million dollars a year in revenue."

"My daughter is walking, Rocco," Luca said, his voice holding an unshakeable, absolute authority. "And my wife is building a medical foundation. We don't need Genovese money anymore."
Rocco stared at his Don, seeing a man who had completely transformed his destiny. He bowed his head respectfully. "Understood, Mr. Moretti. I'll inform New York."
