Chapter 13 - The Fall of Salvatore|

Salvatore froze, his hand trembling on the grip of his gun inside his coat. Sweat poured down his silver hair, smearing his pale skin.
"Luca... listen to me..." Salvatore stammered, his voice cracking hysterically. "The Genovese family... they threatened my life! They said if I didn't give them access to Pier 19, they would kill my sons! I had no choice!"
"You put my daughter in a wheelchair for three years, Sal," Luca said, his voice dropping into an icy register that made every man in the room shudder. "You made me watch her cry every morning because she couldn't move her legs. You let me believe my wife died in an accident."
"Luca, please!" Salvatore begged, dropping his cane as he fell to his knees on the cold concrete. "We're blood! Your father was my brother!"
Luca looked down at his uncle kneeling at his feet.
"My father was an honorable man," Luca said softly. "And you are a rat."
Luca didn't pull the trigger. He lowered his gun, handing it to Rocco.
"Take him to the basement at Pier 42," Luca commanded flatly. "Inform the Genovese elders that their informant has been exposed, and transfer all of Sal’s dock assets to the Carter sisters' trust fund."
Salvatore’s eyes went wide as saucers as two broad-shouldered enforcers grabbed him by his arms, dragging him screaming out of the warehouse.
"Luca! No! Please! Luca!"
The heavy steel doors slammed shut, cutting off Salvatore’s cries forever.

Luca turned slowly to face the eight remaining captains.
"The meeting is over," Luca announced, his gray eyes flashing with absolute, undisputed authority. "And if anyone in this city ever approaches Hannah or Clara Carter again, you will answer to me personally."
