Chapter 17 - THE SPEECHBefore the parade began, Addie stood in front of the crowd.

She held a microphone.

“When I was eight years old, I was told I couldn't participate.”

The crowd became quiet.

“I thought it was because I was different.”

She looked at the children beside her.

“But I learned something.”

She paused.

“Sometimes, the problem isn't that you don't fit.”

She looked toward the parade route.

“Sometimes, the rules were simply written by people who never thought about you.”

The crowd applauded.

Addie smiled.

“And sometimes, all it takes is one person to ask, ‘Why not?’”

She looked toward Ethan.

He nodded.
