Chapter 14 - THE CHAIRMAN'S SECRETYears later, the former parade chairman asked to meet Addie.

She almost refused.

But she agreed.

They met at the same street where the confrontation had happened.

The man looked older now.

“I owe you the truth,” he said.

Addie waited.

“My son used a wheelchair.”

She was surprised.

“He died when he was ten.”

The man looked down.

“After that, I couldn't look at wheelchairs without thinking about him.”

Addie said nothing.

“I thought I was protecting myself.”

He looked at her.

“But I ended up hurting you.”

Addie slowly nodded.

“I'm sorry about your son.”

The man began to cry.
