Chapter 8 - The Confrontation with Celeste|

At 1:30 a.m., Celeste Arden was pacing frantic circles in the living room of Dominic’s penthouse in Midtown.

Her bags were packed and sitting near the private elevator doors.

She grabbed her coat, turning toward the foyer, when the elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.

Dominic stepped out.

His face was shadowed, his clothes damp, his hands tucked loosely into his coat pockets.

Celeste froze, forcing a nervous, trembling smile onto her lips. "Dominic! Thank God you're back! How... how is Mara? How is the baby?"

Dominic walked slowly across the marble floorboards, stopping four feet away from her.

"Where are you going, Celeste?" he asked softly, gesturing to her packed suitcases.

"I... I was worried," she lied frantically, her hands shaking. "The reporters were surrounding the building, so I thought I should stay at a hotel for the night—"

"Julian is dead," Dominic interrupted flatly.

Celeste’s words died in her throat. The color vanished from her face completely.

"He told me everything before he died," Dominic continued, taking a step toward her. "He told me about the twenty thousand dollars. He told me about the clinic records you bribed in Halston."

"He lied to you!" Celeste shrieked, backing away toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. "Julian was trying to save himself! Dominic, I love you! I spent eight months taking care of you while that woman ran away!"

"She ran away to protect my child from you!" Dominic roared, closing the distance between them in a flash, his hand locking around her throat, backing her against the cold glass.

Celeste gasped for air, clutching at his iron fingers, tears streaming down her face.

"I didn't kill her, Celeste," Dominic whispered, his gray eyes burning with pure venom. "Because death is too mercy for what you did. You're going to spend the rest of your life in a state prison for attempted murder and conspiracy."

He tossed her onto the velvet sofa like a ragdoll.

Rocco and two police detectives stepped out of the elevator behind him.

"Take her away," Dominic ordered, turning his back on her forever.
