Chapter 12 - The Shadows of the Waterfront|

While peace settled over the NICU, trouble was brewing across the city at the Bell Haven shipping yards.

With Julian dead and Celeste imprisoned, the regional captains of the rival Genovese family saw an opportunity to seize Pier 14.

At eight o'clock on Monday evening, Rocco entered Mara’s private recovery room on the fourth floor, his face tense.

"Boss," Rocco whispered, gesturing toward the hallway. "We have a problem at the docks."

Dominic stood up from his chair, walking out into the corridor, shutting the door quietly behind him. "Talk."

"Don Carmine Genovese just moved three supply ships into our private berth at Pier 14," Rocco reported grimly. "He claims that since Julian signed a secondary contract with him last week, the waterfront belongs to New York now."

Dominic’s eyes narrowed into lethal slits. "Carmine thinks I'm weak because I'm sitting in a hospital."

"He brought forty armed enforcers to the docks, Boss," Rocco warned. "He’s calling a meeting at midnight."

Dominic looked back through the small window of Mara’s room, watching her peacefully sleep beside a vase of fresh white roses he had bought her that morning.

He unbuttoned his coat, pulling a silver signet ring—the symbol of the Vescari Don—from his pocket and sliding it back onto his finger.

"Call every captain in Bell Haven," Dominic commanded smoothly. "Tell them their Don is coming to Pier 14."
