Chapter 13 - The Show of Force|

At midnight, rain once again swept across Pier 14, washing the dark concrete docks.
Two heavy black armored SUVs pulled up to the main crane platform, where Don Carmine Genovese sat inside a heated trailer surrounded by thirty armed enforcers.
Carmine was a heavy, silver-haired man in his sixties, holding a expensive cigar.
The trailer door flew open.
Dominic Vescari walked inside, flanked by Rocco and twenty broad-shouldered Vescari soldiers carrying automatic rifles.
Carmine didn't stand up. He let out a smoke ring, smiling patronizingly. "Dominic. I heard you were busy playing family man at Saint Mercy's."
Dominic walked straight up to the desk, setting a single piece of paper down over Carmine's shipping logs.
It was the original waterfront deed, stamped with the official state seal.
"Your contract with Julian is void, Carmine," Dominic stated flatly, his voice carrying an icy authority that dropped the temperature in the room. "Julian had no legal power to sign away Vescari assets."
Carmine sneered, setting his cigar in an ashtray. "You think you can come here with twenty boys and tell me what’s void, Vescari? I have three ships in this harbor."
"And I have the harbor master," Dominic replied calmly.
Dominic pulled out his phone, pressing a single button on the speakerphone.
"Mr. Vescari," the harbor master's voice came through clearly. "The Coast Guard has just impounded all three Genovese vessels for illegal cargo inspections. They are being towed to the federal yard in Norfolk."
Carmine jumped to his feet, his face turning bright red with rage. "You bastard!"
"Listen to me carefully, Carmine," Dominic whispered, leaning over the desk until his face was inches from the rival Don's. "I just spent four days watching my wife and daughter fight for their lives. My patience for small men playing games is entirely gone. Take your boys and leave Bell Haven by sunrise... or I will sink your ships in the bay."

Carmine stared into Dominic’s storm-gray eyes, realizing that the man standing before him was no longer just a mafia boss—he was a father protecting his empire.
Carmine slowly backed down, nodding once in utter defeat.
