Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at the DinerThe following week, Walter decided to host a private luncheon at his estate to celebrate Maya’s sixth birthday. He invited close family friends and board members.
However, Victor plotted a public humiliation. He tracked down Steve Simmons—Laya’s bitter former manager from the diner—and paid him to crash the gathering under the guise of delivering catering supplies.
In the middle of the crowded courtyard, Steve stepped forward, pointing an accusing finger at Laya.
"This woman is a thief!" Steve shouted loudly, drawing the attention of all the wealthy guests. "She was fired from my diner for stealing cash from the register and neglecting her duties! She’s taking advantage of old Mr. Weston!"
Gasps echoed through the crowd. Laya turned pale, gripping Maya’s small hand tightly as tears welled in her eyes.
Before Steve could say another word, Walter stood up from his chair, his voice booming with unexpected strength.
"Silence!" Walter commanded, walking down the steps with his cane. "I was in your diner the morning you fired her, Mr. Simmons. I saw you bully a hardworking mother who had spent her night saving my life in the storm!"

Julian stepped forward, placing a comforting arm around Laya’s shoulders, his eyes burning with lethal calm as he faced Victor and Steve.
"Security," Julian ordered coldly. "Escort Mr. Simmons off the property. And Victor... your resignation from the board is accepted effective immediately. You are barred from this estate."
