Chapter 3 - Stepping Into the MansionThe following afternoon, Laya and Maya arrived at the sprawling Weston estate. The grand stone mansion was surrounded by ancient oak trees, but inside, the high ceilings and marble floors felt strangely silent and cold.
Walter greeted them with a warm, grandfatherly smile in the grand library. Little Maya instantly warmed up to him, showing him her favorite picture books while Walter offered her fresh pastries prepared by the house chef.
As Laya sat by the fireplace chatting with Walter, Julian entered the room. Without his wet raincoat, wearing a crisp charcoal suit, he looked strikingly powerful yet guarded.
While Walter and Maya played in the garden, Julian led Laya into his private study to sign her employment contract.
"My father lost my mother four years ago," Julian said softly, staring out the window. "Since then, he has retreated from the world. Last night was the first time in years he left the house alone. You saved more than just his physical health, Laya."

For the first time, Julian's stoic demeanor softened, a quiet spark igniting between them.
