Chapter 17 - The Missing HeirloomWith Victoria in police custody and Richard on the run across state lines, a sense of temporary relief returned to Hawthorne Mansion.
However, three days later, while cleaning out Eleanor’s private vault to audit family documents, Sarah made a troubling discovery. A small velvet box containing the original deed to the Hawthorne family estate—along with Eleanor’s personal journal—was missing.
"It was here last week," Sarah said anxiously to Alexander. "The lock wasn't broken, which means whoever took it had a master key."
Alexander’s mind immediately raced to one person. "Richard. He knew the old vault codes from when he lived here years ago."
