Chapter 9 - Lily’s VoiceThen came the moment for the key witness to take the stand. The defense attorney demanded that Lily testify in person. I fought bitterly to protect my daughter from further trauma, but Lily took my hand and whispered softly: "Daddy, I want to speak."

For the first time, my daughter stood before the witness box. She wore the blue dress her mother loved most, clutching her purple notebook tightly in her hands.

"Lily," the Judge asked gently. "Can you tell us about this notebook?"

Lily took a deep breath and looked toward Kate. The fear in her eyes was gone, replaced by a quiet strength forged through hardship.

"Aunt Kate said if I told Daddy, he would abandon us because he didn't love us anymore," Lily’s voice rang clear and unwavering through the microphone. "So I wrote everything down. I wrote it because I was scared that if I forgot, no one would protect Owen. I kept Mommy's phone because I knew Mommy was watching over us."

Several members of the jury silently wiped away tears.

Kate looked up at Lily, her lips trembling, but she couldn't utter a single word. Simple truth from a child had shattered every elaborate lie she and her lawyer had constructed.
