Chapter 14 - THE LAST SECRETMargaret's lawyer contacted Michael.
“There is one more matter.”
Michael went to see him.
The lawyer handed him a document.
It was a letter from his father.
A second letter.
This one had been hidden inside the house's foundation documents.
Robert had written:
Margaret did not destroy my life alone. I allowed fear to control me.
Michael continued reading.
I knew about Claire. I knew about Lily. I knew Margaret had manipulated the situation. But I chose silence because I was afraid of losing my company.
Michael's hands trembled.
His father had known.
He had known for years.
And he had done nothing.
If my son ever learns the truth, I hope he understands that adults often create monsters out of fear.
Michael closed his eyes.
The truth was not simple.
His mother had manipulated.
His father had lied.
Claire had suffered.
Lily had been abandoned.
Emily had been deceived.
And Michael had been trapped between all of them.
