Chapter 13 - EMILY'S DECISIONEmily considered leaving Michael.

Not because she no longer loved him.
Because she was exhausted.
Their entire marriage had been manipulated.
She had spent fourteen months believing he had abandoned her.
She had blamed herself.
She had nearly filed for divorce.
All because of Margaret.
“I don't know how to trust again,” Emily said.
Michael nodded.
“I understand.”
“You were gone.”
“I know.”
“But I wasn't alone because you stopped loving me.”
“No.”
“I was alone because your mother lied.”
Michael looked at her.
“But I still let her control too much of my life.”
Emily stared at him.
He was right.
Michael had always allowed Margaret to make decisions.
He had allowed her to interfere.
He had assumed she meant well.
That was his responsibility.
“I love you,” Emily whispered.
Michael took her hand.
“But?”
“But I don't know if love is enough.”
Michael nodded.
“Then I'll spend the rest of my life proving that trust can be rebuilt.”
May you like
Not with promises.
With actions.
