Chapter 18 - The Final Reckoning|

Victor Vance lay on his back in the cold mud, clutching his shoulder, staring up at Matthew Castille with wild, bloodshot eyes.

The remaining Genovese mercenaries, seeing their leader captured and half their team wiped out, threw down their weapons, surrendering to the surrounding Castille guards.

The sound of gunfire died down, leaving only the wail of emergency sirens in the distance.

Matthew stood over Victor, pointing his handgun directly between the New York Don's eyes.

"You brought war to my pregnant wife's bedroom, Victor," Matthew whispered, his voice dropping into a register so dark it made the air freeze.

"Matthew... wait!" Victor gasped out, coughing up blood. "We can make a deal! The New York territory... I’ll sign over the docks!"

"I don't want your docks, Victor," Matthew replied flatly. "I want peace for my family."

Phft.

A single suppressed round ended the Genovese threat forever.

Matthew lowered his weapon, wiping a spot of rain and smoke from his jaw, turning to look up at the third-floor window of the master suite where a dim light was burning.

"Rocco," Matthew ordered, handing his weapon over. "Clean up the gardens. I have to get back to my wife."
