Chapter 12 - The Nesting|

Back at the Lake Forest estate, two weeks passed in quiet, luxurious bliss.

Mia’s pregnancy had entered its eighth month. Her belly was large and rounded, and she spent her afternoons sitting in the estate’s sunlit conservatory, reading books, while Matthew worked from his private study nearby.

Matthew had completely reorganized his empire. He canceled all out-of-state travel, conducted his board meetings via video conference, and spent every evening beside Mia.

He personally helped her pick out the furniture for the nursery—a magnificent room decorated in soft cream, gold, and white, filled with hand-carved cribs, plush teddy bears, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the blooming rose gardens.

One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of violet and gold, Matthew walked into the nursery carrying a warm cup of herbal tea.

Mia sat in a plush rocking chair near the window, her hands resting over her stomach, watching the sunset.

Matthew walked over, dropping to one knee beside her chair, setting the tea on a nearby table. He rested his large palm gently over her rounded belly.

Instantly, a strong, distinct kick pressed against his hand.

Matthew froze, his gray eyes widening in pure wonder.

"Did you feel that?" Mia laughed softly, touching his hand.

"He's strong," Matthew whispered, a rare, genuine smile illuminating his fierce face. "He’s kicking like a fighter."

"Or she," Mia corrected gently, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "We still don't know."

Matthew leaned up, pressing a tender, passionate kiss against her lips, his hands cupping her face. "Boy or girl, they will have the strongest mother in this city."
