Chapter 13 - The Silent Threat|

At three o'clock on a cold Thursday afternoon, Rocco walked briskly into Matthew’s study, holding an encrypted tablet.
Matthew set his pen down, his eyes instantly turning sharp. "What is it, Rocco?"
"Our intelligence team in New York intercepted a heavy communication burst from the Genovese family," Rocco reported grimly, handing the tablet over. "Victor Vance has moved twenty of his best enforcers into a safehouse in South Chicago."
Matthew’s gray eyes narrowed into lethal slits as he scanned the encrypted text logs.
"They're targeting the delivery," Matthew stated flatly.
"Yes, boss," Rocco confirmed. "They know Mrs. Castille is scheduled to deliver at Northwestern Memorial’s private wing in four weeks. They're planning an ambush on the convoy."
Matthew slowly stood up from his leather chair, walking over to the window overlooking the gardens where Mia was walking with Mrs. Gable.
"Victor Vance thinks I'm going to wait four weeks for him to strike," Matthew murmured, his voice dropping into a terrifyingly calm register.
"What are your orders, boss?" Rocco asked, his hand resting on his sidearm holster.
Matthew turned around, his face set in stone.
"Move the delivery team to the estate," Matthew commanded. "We set up a fully equipped surgical suite in the west wing. Dr. Mercer and his top nurses will move in tomorrow. We lock down the perimeter, and we bring Victor Vance out into the open."
"And the New York enforcers in South Chicago?"

Matthew reached into his desk drawer, pulling out a heavy silver handgun, racking the slide with a sharp metallic clack.
"Clean them out tonight," Matthew ordered. "Leave no one alive to report back to Victor."
