Chapter 8 - Past Wounds

In the quiet aftermath of the dock skirmish, the atmosphere in the Moretti mansion shifted from tension to profound intimacy. Late that night, unable to sleep, Elena sat on the stone patio overlooking the moonlit gardens. Dante stepped out onto the terrace, holding two cups of steaming tea, and sat quietly on the bench beside her.

He looked out into the darkness, his voice barely above a whisper. "I lost my sister three years ago in a car accident caused by men like Vance. After that, I built walls around myself. I thought feeling nothing meant I couldn't be hurt again." He turned to look at her. "Then you walked into that agency, looking like a ghost, and saw right through every wall I built."

Elena reached out, her fingers gently touching his sleeve. She took her notepad and wrote: Silence is not just about missing sound, Dante. It is about learning how to listen with your soul. Dante stared at the handwritten words, his chest tightening with an overwhelming emotion he hadn't felt in years. He took her hand in his, their fingers interlocking naturally, sealing a bond that words could never adequately capture.
