Elena turned away from her mother and followed Dante outside toward a waiting black SUV. As the city hummed around them, Elena paused, her eyes catching movement across the street. His trained security team and seasoned professionals had missed the handoff entirely, yet the deaf woman everyone underestimated had caught it instantly.
