Chapter 6 - Shadows in the Study

As days turned into weeks, Elena transitioned from a temporary maid to Dante’s most trusted confidante within the estate. They spent hours together in the private study—Dante reviewing ledgers and security reports, while Elena cataloged documents or read historical volumes by the fireplace. They communicated through a seamless blend of written notes, basic sign language that Dante had begun learning at night, and intense, meaningful eye contact.

One evening, while reviewing security camera footage from the perimeter gates, Elena pointed sharply at the screen. The timestamp showed a guard—the exact same man Elena had seen outside the employment agency weeks earlier—handing a flash drive to an unknown operative in a dark sedan.

Dante slammed his fist onto the desk, the sound vibrating through the wood. "Marcus," he growled, recognizing the head of his night shift security. "He’s been leaking our patrol routes."

Instead of flying into an uncontrolled rage, Dante looked at Elena, his expression softening. "We are going to use this," he said quietly. "We are going to feed them false information and lead them right into a trap." Elena nodded slowly, a quiet fire igniting in her eyes. She was no longer just an observer; she was part of the defense.
