Chapter 13 - The Final Boardroom BattleThree days later, back in Manhattan, the fifty-fifth-floor boardroom of Mercer Dynamics looked like a courtroom awaiting a death sentence.

The massive glass table was packed to capacity. Representatives from Vanguard, institutional asset managers, independent board members, and federal auditors sat in heavy silence. At the center of the table sat Daniel Mercer—broken, unshaven, looking ten years older than he had a week ago. His emergency injunction requests had all been summarily denied by federal judges, and his corporate credit cards had been completely revoked.
The double doors swung open.
I walked into the boardroom, flanked by Evelyn Vance and Marcus Hale. I wore a sharp, cream-colored maternity blazer, my posture upright, my thirty-four-week pregnancy visible and commanding absolute respect.
Every single person at the table stood up instantly—except Daniel, who remained slumped in his chair, staring at the polished wood with dead, hollow eyes.
I took my seat at the head of the table—the exact seat that my grandfather’s trust legally guaranteed to me as majority controlling shareholder.
“Good morning, gentlemen,” I said, my voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room. “As the primary trust holder and newly appointed executive chairwoman of Mercer Dynamics, I call this emergency restructuring session to order.”
Daniel slowly raised his head, his lips trembling. “Claire... please.”
I didn't even look at him. I turned to the lead representative from Vanguard.
“The former CEO’s partnership with Vanessa Cole and her criminal syndicate has been fully documented and transmitted to federal prosecutors,” I stated clearly, sliding a thick audit report across the table. “Effective immediately, Daniel Mercer is terminated from Mercer Dynamics for gross negligence, corporate fraud, and fiduciary breach, with all pension and equity options permanently forfeited.”
“Motion carried unanimously,” the lead Vanguard representative responded without hesitation, raising his hand.

Daniel let out a low, broken sob, burying his face in his hands as the federal marshals stationed outside the doors stepped inside, walked over to his chair, and placed him under formal arrest for financial conspiracy and corporate embezzlement.
As they hauled him out of the boardroom in handcuffs, he didn't look at me with anger anymore. He only looked with the pathetic, hollow realization of a man who had traded his entire empire for a lie, only to discover that the wife he had discarded was the architect who had built his throne in the first place.
