Chapter 11 - The Confession on Tape“Daniel is currently experiencing the very specific legal agony of losing everything he built,” I replied smoothly, descending the metal staircase step by step until I stood twenty feet away from her on the concrete floor. “Just like you’re about to experience.”

Vanessa laughed—a high, brittle sound that carried no real warmth. “You actually think you’ve won something, don't you? You found a diary, you froze some accounts, you threw a temper tantrum. But you don't understand how the real world works, little girl. Men like Daniel, empires like Vanguard—we don't lose to emotional housewives.”

“You’re right,” I agreed calmly. “You didn't lose to an emotional housewife. You lost to the primary trust holder and legal strategist who spent nine years auditing international cartels before you were even out of business school.”

Before Vanessa could retort, a soft, electronic beep echoed from the breast pocket of my coat.

I reached inside, pulled out my encrypted recorder, and held it up. A small green LED light blinked steadily.

“Every single word you just spoke regarding the Vanguard merger manipulation, the corporate embezzlement, and the financial contract for my elimination has been livestreamed directly to the federal cyber-crimes division and recorded on three independent secure servers,” I stated clearly.

Vanessa’s face went entirely white. The cold, untouchable billionaire facade shattered instantly.

“You... you recording bitch!” Vanessa screamed, abandoning all pretense of composure. She lunged forward, reaching into her designer handbag with lightning speed, pulling out a small, suppressed Beretta pistol and leveling it directly at my chest.

“End of the line, Claire!” Vanessa shrieked, her finger tightening against the trigger, her knuckles turning white. “If I can't have the merger, nobody gets the company!”

She fired.

The suppressed shot cracked sharply through the cavernous space.
