Chapter 15 - The Trial of the CenturyThe trial began three months later in the U.S. District Court of Southern Ohio.

The case attracted national media attention. Headlines blared across every major news network: "FORMER ATTORNEY AND STEP-MOTHER ON TRIAL FOR RUNNING ILLICIT CHILD ABUSE LIVE-STREAM RING."

Karen’s defense team tried every trick in the book, claiming the videos were deepfakes, arguing entrapment, and attempting to paint me as a disgruntled, controlling ex-husband seeking revenge in a custody dispute.

Their strategy collapsed on the third day of testimony.

Agent Vance took the stand, presenting unredacted financial records showing over one hundred and twenty thousand dollars funneled from the dark-web server into Karen’s personal offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Then, the prosecution played the unedited live streams on the courtroom’s massive projection screens.

The jury sat in stunned, horrified silence as they watched Karen laugh while terrorizing my children. Several jurors wiped away tears.

When it was my turn to testify, I looked directly at the jury box, then glanced across the room toward the defense table where Karen sat staring holes into the polished oak floor, refusing to meet my eyes.

"My children trusted her," I told the court, my voice steady and resonant. "They called her mom. And every time I put on my uniform to protect this community, she was torturing them behind closed doors for pocket change. A protector cannot fail his own blood."

After a mere two hours of deliberation, the jury returned with their verdict.

Guilty on all counts.

Count one: Human trafficking and exploitation of minors. Count two: Interstate transmission of abusive content. Count three: Aggravated child endangerment.

Judge Harrison did not hesitate when handing down the sentence.

"You have desecrated the sacred trust of parenthood and preyed upon the most vulnerable members of our society for greed," Judge Harrison declared, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "I sentence you to forty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole."
