Maya stood beside Caroline's grave.
She was holding the gold bracelet.
Nathaniel approached slowly.
"Give it to me."
Maya shook her head.
"I didn't hurt anyone."
"Then tell me the truth."
She looked at Elena.
"I was contacted six months ago."
"By whom?"
"Richard Vale."
Nathaniel's expression hardened.
"He told me my mother had been searching for me."
"She had."
"He told me you were the reason she died."
Nathaniel went still.
Maya cried.
"He said you knew about the records."
"I didn't."
"I know that now."
"Then why did you take Lily?"
Maya shook her head.
"I didn't."
Elena stepped forward.
"What?"
Maya looked at her.
"I never took Lily."
"Then who did?"
Maya turned toward the trees.
A figure stepped out.
Richard Vale.
Nathaniel's face hardened.
"Where is Lily?"
Richard smiled.
"Still asking the wrong question."
Nathaniel moved forward.
Richard raised his hands.
"Your daughter is safe."
"Where?"
"With the person who has always wanted her."
Elena felt the blood drain from her face.
"Who?"
