Chapter 9 - The Sanctuary at HomeBy evening, the news trucks had parked outside the iron gates of David’s suburban estate. The story of the sadistic teacher shearing a student's hair had exploded across local news broadcasts and social media platforms.

Inside the safety of their home, David had arranged for a professional child psychologist, Dr. Sarah Evans, to come over and help Lily process the trauma of the day.

David sat in his study downstairs, reviewing financial ledgers and speaking with his lead attorney, Marcus Sterling, to ensure that Mrs. Gable’s teaching license was permanently revoked and that criminal charges were formally filed with the county prosecutor.

"She's resting now, David," Dr. Evans said softly, walking into the study and closing the door behind her. "She's shaken, but knowing you came for her so quickly made all the difference. Children heal when they know their protectors won't fail them."

"Thank you, Doctor," David nodded, exhaling a heavy breath.

He closed his laptop, rubbed his tired eyes, and walked upstairs to check on his daughter.

Lily was fast asleep in her bed, clutching a stuffed rabbit, her cropped hair resting softly against the pillow. David pulled the blanket up over her shoulder, kissed her forehead, and whispered a silent vow that he would never let her face the dark alone again.
