Chapter 12 - The Unspoken BondOver the following months, Sarah’s visits transitioned from clinical consultations to genuine, warm friendship.

She attended Lily's weekend soccer games, helped her pick out a fun new wig and stylish hats that made her feel confident, and shared quiet, intelligent conversations with David long after the sun dipped below the horizon.
David found himself looking forward to her visits more than he cared to admit. For years, he had closed off his heart following his wife's passing, dedicating himself entirely to business and fatherhood. But Sarah’s grounded compassion, sharp intellect, and effortless warmth began to thaw the frozen places inside his soul.
One evening in November, as a gentle rain tapped against the kitchen windows, Sarah stayed late to help Lily finish an intricate science project involving a papier-mâché solar system.
After Lily was tucked into bed, Sarah and David sat at the kitchen island drinking chamomile tea.
"You know, David," Sarah said, stirring her tea thoughtfully. "You carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. It's okay to let someone help you carry it sometimes."

David looked across the counter into her kind, steady eyes, feeling a profound wave of gratitude and warmth.
"I spent so long believing that protecting my family meant standing entirely alone," David murmured. "With you here... I'm starting to realize sharing the watch doesn't make you weaker. It makes you whole."
