Chapter 7 - Embracing the Broken FlowerDavid knelt on the linoleum floor, gently taking Lily’s small, trembling hands into his own.
"Daddy..." Lily sobbed, throwing her arms around his neck and burying her face into the shoulder of his tailored suit jacket. "I'm sorry... I tried to finish the math sheet, but my eyes hurt..."
"Hush, baby. You have nothing to be sorry for," David whispered, his voice cracking slightly as he held her tightly against his chest, feeling the smallness of her frame. "You are safe now. Daddy's here. Nobody is ever going to hurt you again."
He stood up, lifting Lily effortlessly into his arms while she clung to him like a lifeline.

As he carried her toward the classroom door, he turned back one last time to look at Mrs. Gable, who stood frozen and trembling beside her desk.
"Pack your things, Mrs. Gable," David commanded coldly. "The police and the school board are already on their way."
