Chapter 20 - THE TABLE WHERE EVERYONE BELONGEDOne year later, Rodrigo's wedding was annulled.

His company was dissolved.
He cooperated with investigators.
He repaid what he could.
And for the first time in his life, he began rebuilding without pretending.
Camila moved on.
She became a successful architect.
And she never again married a man simply because he looked successful.
Elena took back her real name.
She no longer needed to hide.
Adrian's mother accepted responsibility for her crimes.
She was sentenced.
But before entering prison, she asked to see Valeria.
"I am sorry."
Valeria looked at her.
"For what?"
"For what my family did to yours."
Valeria was quiet.
Then answered:
"Sorry doesn't bring my father back."
"No."
"But truth matters."
The older woman nodded.
"It does."
Valeria walked away.
She did not forgive everything.
But she no longer carried the burden of not knowing.
Months later, Nebula Technologies hosted a charity gala.
The ballroom was elegant.
The tables were filled with executives, investors, celebrities, and government officials.
Valeria entered wearing a simple black dress.
Everyone stood.
Not because she was Adrian's employee.
Not because of her family.
But because she had earned their respect.
Adrian walked toward her.
"You're late."
She looked at him.
"I was helping the children."
He smiled.
"Still sitting at their table?"
She glanced toward the corner.
A group of children were coloring.
One little girl waved.
Valeria waved back.
Then she walked over.
Adrian followed.
A boy pushed a purple crayon toward him.
"Want to finish the dragon?"
Adrian sat down.
"Of course."
Valeria laughed.
Across the room, Rodrigo watched them.
He had changed.
Not completely.
But enough.
He approached his sister.
"Can I sit here?"
Valeria looked at the tiny plastic chair.
"You might be too important."
Rodrigo smiled sadly.
"Not anymore."
She moved over.
He sat beside her.
For a while, neither spoke.
Then Rodrigo said:
"I was terrible to you."
"Yes."
"I thought I was better than you."
"I know."
"I was wrong."
Valeria looked at him.
"That took you long enough."
He laughed.
Then his eyes filled with tears.
"Can we start again?"
She considered the question.
Then handed him a purple crayon.
"Finish the dragon."
Rodrigo took it.
And began coloring.
At the head table, the executives watched.
The woman once hidden at the children's table now led one of the most powerful communications divisions in the world.
The brother who had once tried to hide her had finally learned the truth.
And Adrian Alcazar sat beside her.
Not because she needed his protection.
Not because he wanted to display her.
But because he knew something everyone else had taken years to understand.
Some people are not invisible.
They are simply surrounded by people too arrogant to see them.
And sometimes…
The person everyone places at the children's table…
May you like
Is the only adult in the room.
